John Ludvig" } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Ludvig is quickly becoming a fan and coach favorite. His physical style is unique to this Penguins' team, and is starting to get him more playing time. He finished Thursday with the most ice time he's seen in a game this season (15:19)." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Maybe more importantly, Ludvig spent most of the game playing with Kris Letang on the Penguins' top pairing. Head coach Mike Sullivan made the switch after the first period, and while that duo didn't create many opportunities, their work in the defensive zone was pivotal as the Penguins clung to a one-goal lead in the third period." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "2. Evgeni Malkin" } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Malkin's goal from Tuesday's game seemed to awaken something in the 18-year NHL veteran. He played with purpose against the Lightning and picked up a gorgeous assist in the process on the game-tying goal late in the second period." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Even more impressive for Malkin was his play in the defensive zone. He was strong on his assignments and played a major role in the Penguins' second and third-period dominance. " } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "1. Tristan Jarry" } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "There is no doubt who the number one star in this game was. Jarry became the first Penguins goaltender to score a goal in its' 57-year history. But before that, he put on one of his best performances of the season, stopping 39 of the Lightning's 41 shots." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Jarry's keeping the Penguins within two goals saved this game for Pittsburgh. Jarry saved 15 of 17 shots in the opening frame and shut out opponents through the final two periods for the fourth straight game. " } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Final Thoughts" } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Mike Sullivan has a lot of faith in his fourth line in the defensive zone. They played a phenomenal game against the Lightning, which included the game-winning goal by Jeff Carter." } }, { "type": "paragraph", "data": { "text": "Sullivan shortened the bench late in the game, holding Radim Zohorna and Jansen Harkins off the ice for the better part of the third period. However, the fourth line deployed regularly late in the game.
