If he remains on the Penguins, could Mikael Granlund be a fit as the team's third line center? As the heat of free agency cools, the Pittsburgh Penguins are pretty close to having their roster set for the upcoming 2023-24 season. One small order of business that needed to be handled, however, was figuring out what number the new Penguins will be wearing. It was finally released what numbers the newcomers will be wearing at the NHL level and there was even a number change with an existing member of the team. In numerical order, new numbers on the Penguins roster include: No. 5, defenseman Ryan Shea No. 9, forward Marc Johnstone No. 11, forward Alex Nylander (new number) No. 15, forward Joona Koppanen No. 19, forward Reilly Smith No. 20, forward Lars Eller No. 27, defenseman Ryan Graves No. 39, goalie Alex Nadeljkovic No. 45, goalie Magnus Hellberg No. 55, forwad Noel Acciari No. 63, forward Radim Zohorna No. 83, forward Matt Nieto Nylander is changing his number after dawning 19 in his first run at the NHL level with the Penguins. The No. 19 will now be worn by Smith who wore it for his six seasons with the Vegas Golden Knights. When Ryan Graves was a member of the Colorado Avalanche, he wore the number 27, but had to switch to 33 with the New Jersey Devils. Acciari sported the number 55 through the first 307 games of his NHL career with the Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers, but had to switch to 52 with the St. Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs.
