The Pittsburgh Penguins re-signed forward Alex Nylander last week despite not having a sitting GM. What were the main takeaways from Nylander's 2022-23 season? Another promising prospect has left the Pittsburgh Penguins system and his heading back to Europe. It was officially announced that Penguins goalie prospect Filip Lindberg is signing a contract in Finland’s SM Liiga with HC TPS. Lindberg is a native of Espoo, Finland and is heading home after a rough couple of season in North America. After winning the NCAA Championship with the University of Massachusetts in 2021, Lindberg signed with the Penguins as a free agent after going unsigned with the Minnesota Wild. Upon arrival, Lindber immediately became one of the top prospects in the Penguins’ system; not just a top goalie prospect, but tops overall. In his first run with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in 2021-22, Lindberg appeared in seven games and put up a 4-2 record. An injury derailed Lindberg’s first year in professional hockey, but they wouldn’t go away into year two. Lindberg again struggled with injuries in 2022-23 and was only able to appear in 19 games at the AHL level. In those 19 games, Lindberg hit a record of 6-11-1 with a .896 save percentage and a 3.13 goals against average. Lindberg is the second Penguins prospect in about a week to head back to their European homeland to play in their respective professional leagues. Fowrard prospect Filip Hallander [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/pittsburgh-penguins/news/pittsburgh-penguins-filip-hallander-signs-contract-sweden] decided to sign with Timra IK in Sweden. Lindberg was an upcoming restricted free agent this offseason with the Penguins.
