Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Casey DeSmith talks about his play over the past month and returning to practice following the All-Star Break. PITTSBURGH - The wait is over and the Pittsburgh Penguins are back on the ice and will see game action in the very near future. While it’s a relief to have the Penguins back for the final stretch of the season, there is still plenty to be fixed with the lineup. The bottom six is lacking on multiple levels and there are questions surrounding the goalie situation. General manager made an address to clear the air on where he thinks the team is at what he plans on doing moving forward. Hextall stated that while he like the team on paper, the inconsistencies have been maxed out and something needs to be improved. Despite there being no visible noise from the Penguins in the rumor mill, during a longer-winded answer regarding possibly moving out the first round pick, he said something is coming. “Conversations are starting to pick up with a lot of guys,” Hextall said. The NHL’s trade deadline is officially under a month away, not giving a lot of runway for general managers to make moves. The Penguins current cap situation does get in the way, and Hextall is well aware of that. “We'll continue to look here at upgrades,” Hextall said. “We got to be creative with our cap situation. There's a lot of teams that are in a tight situation here, and certainly, we're one of them. We're going to have to be creative, but we'd certainly like to find something that upgrades our group.” Hextall knows he has to jump through some hoops to make a move, but he’s doing all he can to improve the makeup of the Penguins. A solution may not appear over night, and the Penguins may need more than one move, but they should be closing in on something soon.
