The Seattle Winger Turned Off-season Uncertainty Into 21-Goal Success
Not Getting A 2022 Offseason Contract Offer: "The business side didn't work out, kind of a wake up call this summer. I had a couple of options to go to different teams on PTOs (pro tryouts), but I wanted to come back here. I knew the coaching staff, knew the guys, so I felt more comfortable coming back.
"Seattle gave me a chance. And then, 21 goals. I just wanted to show everyone, like, hey, I can play in this league.

"I think in the past I've shown I can score. That was never an issue in this league for me. But the all-around game, I think I've developed really well here with the coaching staff, and the numbers speak for themself. It felt pretty good to prove, I'd say, 31 teams wrong."
Editor's Note: Sprong played in Pittsburgh with Sidney Crosby and in Washington with Alex Ovechkin. I asked him to compare those teams to the Kraken's "winning by committee" approach.
"We had a different type of team. We had different lines stepping up every night. It wasn't always the same line or the same guys. That made us a very dangerous team to play, because it didn't matter who was out there. We had a chance to score, be a difference maker. That was a real strength to our team.
"Even on the power play, we didn't have one power play unit. We had two really good power play units and it didn't matter which unit started, the other unit would be ready. Same thing, 5-on-5. We had four lines that can play against anyone."
