The 2023-24 NHL Season has begun. Or at least, the press releases talking about it have.
I know what you're thinking. Didn't the Seattle Kraken's AHL farm team in Coachella Valley just get done playing Game 7 of "last year's" Calder Cup Final?
Technically, yes. But that was so two days ago. The Kraken today announced both their 2023-24 preseason schedule, and the dates for their development camp.
From the press release: "Summer Prospect Development Camp will be held July 1-5 at Kraken Community Iceplex. The Development Camp will feature Kraken prospects, such as Shane Wright, Jagger Firkus, Ty Nelson and more, as well as recently-selected 2023 Kraken NHL Draft picks and invitee players from various leagues."
Two of those days will be open to the public. On Sunday, July 2, there will be a pair of one-hour practices at KCI. The "Red Team" will skate from 9:45-10:45 am, and the "Blue Team" from 11:30 am-12:30 pm.
On Wednesday, July 5, a 3-on-3 scrimmage will take place beginning at noon. All times are approximate and tentative. But hey, the Seattle high temperature for July 2 is predicted to be 83 degrees, so here's a good way to get your hockey fix and cool off at the same time.
Three home preseason games are set at Climate Pledge Arena, with all starting at 7 pm. The first is a split-squad game against the Calgary Flames on Monday, September 25. (The other half of Seattle's split squad will play in Calgary on the same day.)
Other home preseason games are against the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday Sept. 28; and the Edmonton Oilers on Monday, Oct. 2.
Seattle will play on the road against the Canucks in Abbotsford, BC on Oct. 4 at 7 pm. For those thinking about driving to the home of Vancouver's AHL affiliate, Abbotsford is southeast of Vancouver, just over the Canadian border.
Aside from the split-squad game in Calgary, the other Kraken preseason road game will take place in Edmonton on Oct. 6. The NHL has not yet released its 2023-24 regular season schedule.
