Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann has scored four goals and 13 points in his last nine games, heating up as the season comes to an end.
The 2024-25 campaign has been difficult for McCann, struggling with consistency. He is on pace to record the lowest goal total of his Kraken tenure and his two goals and three points against the San Jose Sharks brought his totals up to just 20 goals and 58 points.
As a team, the Kraken have underwhelmed. The additions of Brandon Montour and Chandler Stephenson were supposed to elevate the team and put them in a position to fight for a playoff spot. Instead, the Kraken sit 27th in the NHL standings and could record a maximum of 82 points after finishing last season in 25th place, recording 81 points.
The team-wide struggles clearly affected McCann. His on-ice impacts are down from any of his previous seasons with the Kraken and his shooting percentage is at just 10.4%, significantly lower then his seasons of 13.6%, 19.0% and 13.4%.
Despite that, the recent uptick in production should bode well for the 28-year-old. His play throughout his career should provide him with enough reasoning to remain confident in his abilities, but getting hot to the end of the season should give him the boost he needs heading into the offseason.
The Kraken's front office plans to once again compete for a playoff spot, and they'll need McCann to be at his best. Proving to himself that he is still capable of being a big-time point producer will help him do just that.
