Center Morgan Geekie was one of the 4th line unsung heroes who propelled the 2022-23 Seattle Kraken to a surprising 46-win season.

Now, he's helping the Boston Bruins to over-achieve.

Geekie was an original Kraken, playing 142 games over the franchise's first two seasons. It wasn't his first time skating in Washington; before the NHL arrived, the Manitoba native played four full seasons in Kennewick for the WHL's Tri-City Americans. Geekie fashioned 30-goal campaigns in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

When Seattle chose not to re-sign Geekie last summer, the Bruins swooped in with a two year, $4 million free agent contract.

“I had a lot of fun in Seattle and the guys were great,” Geekie said in a Boston Herald interview. “We all came into together in the first year of the expansion team and we all kind of meshed together and grew together.

"And it seems like two years is not a long time, but when you’re a team coming together for the first time it moves pretty quickly.

"It’s always tough to have a change of scenery, especially for your family. My wife had good friends on that team, too. But for me, it’s something that’s been good so far. It’s a business at the end of the day and as unfortunate as it may be, that’s just how the dice rolls sometimes.”

Geekie has been rolling sevens and elevens. In 40 games, he's contributed eight goals and 23 points. Geekie is averaging 15:18 TOI, almost four minutes more per game than his final season in Seattle.

The Bruins, following major off-season personnel losses, were expected to slide from their record-setting regular season a year ago. Instead, they're once again atop the Atlantic Division.

As the Herald story points out,"(Geekie's) found a role in which he can make the biggest impact, centering a third line with wings Trent Frederic and Jakub Lauko for the last three games, all quality wins.

"Geekie takes pride in his versatility. Wherever the Bruins have asked him to play – and he’s seen everything from fourth line duty to centering one of the NHL’s superstars in David Pastrnak – Geekie’s been able to make positive contributions."
