If one positive word could sum up what Eeli Tolvanen has been for the Seattle Kraken, that word might be "consistent."
Seattle GM Ron Francis claimed Tolvanen off waivers from Nashville in January, 2023. In 48 regular season games, he produced 16 goals and 27 points.
In 48 regular season games so far this season, the native of Vihti, Finland has 13 goals and 30 points.
Kraken winger Eeli Tolvanen's second Seattle season has been as consistent as his first. The Kraken face the Columbus Blue Jackets Sunday in the finale of a homestand at Climate Pledge Arena. Tolvanen, on a line with Yanni Gourde and Oliver Bjorkstrand at morning skate, talked about why he's flourished in Seattle.
"It's been the first opportunity I've really gotten to play with the same guys for a longer period," said the former Predators 1st round draft choice. "It makes the game a lot easier. I feel like I can be consistent, because I can read on the ice what (my linemates) are going to do."
If the Kraken were disappointed by failing to hold a two-goal lead Friday against St. Louis, eventually losing 4-3 in overtime, that was kid's stuff. Saturday night in Vancouver, the Blue Jackets held a 4-1 3rd period lead. Three Canucks power play goals tied the game, before Elias Pettersson won it for Vancouver in OT.
Coach Dave Hakstol emphasized the importance of a quick start against a Columbus team playing back-to-back road games. "We have to make this work for us, putting pressure on them throughout 60 minutes."
The Kraken have one other game remaining before the All-Star break, Tuesday in San Jose. They won't resume action until Feb. 10 in Philadelphia, and won't play again at home until Feb. 19 against the Red Wings.
