Snaps From Seattle's 3-0 Shutout of Vegas on New Year's Day

    Image

All day long we're featuring photo albums sorted by subject from Monday's Winter Classic.

Previously, we spotlighted goalie Joey Daccord, game action photos, and the venue itself, T-Mobile Park.

The game, of course, is the "steak" of the Winter Classic. What makes it a much-anticpated date on each season's NHL calendar is the "sizzle." That's what we focus on in this photo collection.

Editor's Note: All photos were shot by Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports.

For Kraken fans, their team has no peer. They did have a pier, though. Pyro, too, for their entrance from the Mariners' first base dugout.Kailer Yamamoto (56) turns in time to spot a flying fish. Sorry... "yeeting" fish.Seattle native Sir Mix-a-Lot serenades the teams as they enter. (I think the song was "Baby Got Backcheck," but I may be mistaken.)Another music legend with Seattle ties, sisters Nancy (left) and Ann Wilson (right) of "Heart," performed during the first intermission. That's not pyro; the songs were so hot, this happened spontaneously.Ann Wilson might have sung her hit, "Even It Up," not aware the Kraken were leading 1-0 after one period. (Actually, I might be mistaken about this, too.)During a parade of Seattle sports legends during the 2nd intermission, Mariners greats Dan Wilson (right) and Jay Buhner (center) applaud as Edgar Martinez (left) waves to the crowd.Seahawks legends Marshawn Lynch (left) and Walter Jones (right). What part of the Kraken does "Beast Mode" own? Any part he wants.Image
