The Seattle Kraken could be making the franchise leader in goals and points, Jared McCann, available at this year's trade deadline, according to Sportsnet's Jacob Stoller.

The Kraken selected McCann from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the expansion draft, and he's been able to unlock his offensive potential in Seattle. The 28-year-old has scored 110 goals and 224 points in 290 games in his Kraken career.

This season has been a bit of an outlier in terms of production, but some of the struggles could be attributed to a low shooting percentage. McCann has recorded just 14 goals and 42 points in 57 games this season. His shooting percentage is 10.9%, the lowest in his Kraken tenure.

The seasons prior saw him finish with shooting percentages of 13.6%, 19.0% and 13.4%.

McCann is in year three of a five-year contract that pays him $5M annually. The contract is very team friendly, and will pay him until he is 31 years old. Teams looking to acquire him won't have much difficulty fitting him under the salary cap beyond this season with the projected and confirmed rises.

Because the rumour is new, no teams have formally been announced as possible suitors, but the organizations that have been looking for scoring forwards to improve their rosters include the Toronto Maple Leafs, Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning and the New Jersey Devils.

If GM Ron Francis does elect to move McCann, the price tag would be set very high, and teams would need to put together a strong package. McCann offers a lot offensively but contributes on the penalty kill as well, which could also impact his price tag.

Moving McCann would signify to the Kraken players that they are changing their approach and moving towards a developmental phase. It'll be interesting to see how the Kraken approach the Mar. 7 trade deadline.
