Seattle, WA - Monday night at Climate Pledge Arena, the Seattle Kraken hosted the New Jersey Devils for their annual Pride Night celebration. Although the Kraken lost 4-2 to the Devils, the evening's most impactful moment unfolded off the ice during a commercial break in the first period. It was then that local hockey heroes Joey Gale and Steven Thompson, creators of the non-profit Seattle Pride Hockey Association [https://www.seattlepridehockey.org/] (SPHA), were honored with the Heroes of the Deep Award. This recognition highlighted their significant contributions to both the sport and the LGBTQ+ community, underscoring the true spirit of the night. SPHA's mission is "committed to promoting and advocating for diversity & inclusiveness in the Pacific Northwest ice hockey community." Every summer SPHA hosts the world's largest three day LGBTQ+ ice hockey tournament [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/seattle-kraken/latest-news/nhl-pwhl-trailblazers-mix-with-300-players-at-seattle-pride-classic] called the Seattle Pride Classic [https://www.seattlepridehockey.org/classic/].
