The Maple Leafs are known to be in the market for depth forwards who can kill penalties and bolster their bottom six. Both Tanev and Gourde fit the criteria of what they are looking for. With new HC Craig Berube, the team is still attempting to become tougher to play against and build for the playoffs. The Maple Leafs and Kraken also have a history of making trades with one another. The Maple Leafs acquired Mark Giordano and Colin Blackwell from the Kraken during the 2021-22 season. With Tanev's brother, Chris currently on the Maple Leafs, a move to acquire Brandon would be a logical one.
