The Seattle Kraken announced on July 10th that the team had signed defender Ville Ottavainen to a one-year, two-way contract worth $850,000 annually. The 23-year-old appeared in one game for the Kraken this season, recording one assist against the Los Angeles Kings on April 15, 2025. Ottavainen was drafted 99th in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Seattle Kraken. The defenseman spent the last four seasons with the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the AHL, appearing in 246 games and recording 11 goals and 52 assists. The 6-foot-5, 216-pound defender grew up in Finland and played for the Finland U20 team in 2021-22. He will now play for the Kraken and the Firebirds in the 2026-27 season.
