In 2019, St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington and Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand were rivals during the Stanley Cup Final. Now, roughly six years after the Blues won the Stanley Cup, Binnington and Marchand are now representing Team Canada together at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
While speaking to reporters, including WEEI's Tom Carroll, Marchand had some incredibly kind words to say about Binnington.
"He's awesome," Marchand said about Binnington. "He is such a competitor, and I think that's the biggest thing. "You see him, the way he focuses the room, even at practice today. Just his attitude. He has the drive and the confidence to want to be the best, and he has the confidence that you want in a goalie."
Marchand also then noted that he spoke with Binnington about this personally.
"I actually had this conversation with him the other night," Marchand said. "When you have a goalie that has confidence like he does, it gives the entire group confidence... So it's been incredible to have him back there. He has been the backbone... It's been awesome to play with him."
Clearly, Binnington's play has impressed Marchand. It will be fascinating to see if this pair and Team Canada can win on Feb. 20 against Team USA in the 4 Nations Face-Off championship from here.
