It was 11 years ago Monday that the St. Louis Blues celebrated one of their more heralded first-round picks in recent memory.

Robby Fabbri, who is currently without a contract and is a candidate for a professional tryout, agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with the Blues on Sept. 2, 2014 that paid the 21st pick in the 2014 NHL Draft $925,000 NHL/$70,000 AHL on his contract that had one slide year.

The 29-year-old went on to have an outstanding rookie season for the Blues in 2015-16 playing for Ken Hitchcock with 37 points (18 goals, 19 assists); the points remains his career-high and the 18 goals is tied for his career-best, matched in 2023-24 with the Detroit Red Wings.

There was so much promise for Fabbri, who helped the Blues to the Western Conference Final in 2016 when they lost to the San Jose Sharks in six games, but two serious knee injuries derailed his career with the Blues, including one Sept. 22, 2017 in a preseason game against the Washington Capitals that forced him to miss the entire 2017-18 season.

After playing 72 regular-season games his rookie season, Fabbri would play in just 92 games his next three seasons with the Blues. He played in just 32 games during the 2018-19 season when the Blues won the franchise's first Stanley Cup.

Fabbri, who would be traded to the Red Wings on Nov. 8, 2019 for forward Jacob de la Rose, signed two more subsequent contracts, each for one year ($925,000 for 2018-19 and $900,000 for 2019-20).

He would play five seasons with the Red Wings before being traded to the Anaheim Ducks on July 3, 2024 for  for goalie Gage Alexander and a conditional 2025 fourth-round draft pick.

Fabbri's three-year, $12 million ($4 million average annual value) he signed with the Red Wings in 2021 expired this past season and now sits without a job.

He currently has 216 points (106 goals, 110 assists) in 442 games spanning nine NHL seasons.

Will Fabbri be able to land a job for the upcoming season, and what are your thoughts on his career with the Blues? Did the knee injuries derail his tenure in St. Louis? Leave your comments below.
