Exciting Blues Goalie Prospect Thriving In AHL

This Blues goalie prospect is having a great season in the AHL.

St. Louis sends Laferriere to Pittsburgh, acquires Adonovski

During the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, the St. Louis Blues selected goaltender Colten Ellis with the 93rd overall pick. While he has yet to make his NHL debut, that has the potential to change soon when looking at how marvelously he has played this season with the Springfield Thunderbirds.

Ellis has appeared in 26 games this season with the Thunderbirds, where he has a 17-6-2 record, a .926 save percentage, and a 2.43 goals-against average. With this, Ellis has the fourth-best save percentage in the AHL, which shows just how dependable he has been between the pipes.

Ellis showed promise with the Thunderbirds this past season, too. He played in a then career-high 16 AHL games with Springfield in 2023-24, posting a .924 save percentage. He has undoubtedly been building off that this campaign with the AHL squad.

Yet, what's more encouraging about Ellis' play is that he is only getting better as the season rolls on. In his last five games, he has a 5-0-0 record and a .938 save percentage or better in each appearance. This includes stopping 30 out of 31 shots he faced against the Grand Rapids Griffins in his last appearance on Feb. 12.

Overall, Ellis is having himself a strong season and is raising his value as a prospect in the Blues' system because of it. Let's see how he builds on his excellent campaign from here.
