    Blues forward Jordan Kyrou

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. -- The numbers once again speak for themselves when it comes to Jordan Kyrou.

Even in a season of team disappointment, not making the playoffs with a 37-38-7 record, the 24-year-old was able to lead the Blues in goals (37) and points (73) in 79 games this season despite a dip in assists (48 to 36) and slight dip in points (75) from a season ago.

Now the task for Kyrou, who was a team-worst minus-38 in the plus-minus category and tied for second-worst in the league this season with Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Seth Jones (Andrew Peeke of the Columbus Blue Jackets was minus-40), is to continue to grow his all-around game.

The forward was on hand at the end-of-season media session and talked about that, becoming a more mature player, not being in the playoffs and other topics:

On disappointment of not still be playing right now:

Yeah, definitely sucks. Obviously last year, we're in a totally different spot. We're kind of making a run for it last year. To be out already is a pretty shit feeling.

What did you learn about yourself or the team this year?

I think in general, overall, it wasn't really a great season for many of us. It kind of sucks. We've got to go into the summer and have a good summer here and get ready for next year.

How do you evaluate yourself individually? How do you see your game at this stage early in your career?

Like I said, we weren't really good as a team this year. It's all that really matters is how the team does. Next year I want to be better obviously for the team. I want to be better as a group.

Justin Faulk talking about the professionalism of the team slip early on. You and Thomas will take on big contracts next year. How do you make a commitment this summer to make that next step and be a guy who can keep that professionalism at a high level?

I think it's just kind of your attitude and all the things you do off the ice as well as on the ice obviously. All of it is just a mindset as well. You've got to be willing to always be thinking about those things all the time and make sure you're on top of that stuff, kind of stuff like that.

What are those things? What are specific things you can do this year to help yourself in that area?

Obviously you want to get better in all areas of your game. For me, obviously I want to try and get that consistency with playing obviously harder on the puck and maybe being a lot better defensively in certain areas. And then obviously with stuff off the ice, helping younger guys and things like that.

Did you feel with the big contract the raised expectations? Did that put pressure on you or no?

I think in the beginning, I think there was a lot of pressure. It kind of hit me. It was a little tough and then once I started to get past that mental grind, that mental patch, I think I started to do a little better. But yeah, it was definitely a little tough in the beginning for sure.

How would you characterize your relationship with coach Craig Berube?

We have a great relationship. It's pretty honest with each other. We keep each other honest. It's a good relationship.

With getting more consistent, is that something you can work on over the summer or through more game experience?

I think it's just playing more and like you said, just get more experience, just being more consistent day to day. It's obviously also a mental thing. You've got to try and be in that state of mind more, I guess.

Anything about your off-season training you will change?

I definitely think I can still fill out a lot more. I mean, I'm still only 24 years old. I just want to put some weight on and gain some strength.

Since you're out of it so much more earlier, do you take a couple more weeks off or get right at it?

I don't know. I haven't really thought of that yet, right? I haven't been in this spot in a while.
