The Calgary Flames were going to stack their top line on Thursday in need of an infusion offensively, and searching for a way to break out of a funk.
The task was tall for Robert Thomas and his linemates, Jordan Kyrou and Brandon Saad, to put the clamps on Elias Lindholm, Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri.
Not only did that line put the clamps down on Calgary's top line, but Thomas was a one-man wrecking crew in a 3-0 win over the Flames.
Thomas finished the game with an assist, was plus-1 in the game but he outshot the Calgary top line himself, 6-1, and that line outshot that line combined 9-1 in an outstanding defensive effort. Thomas had some quality scoring chances and was only shut down by Flames netminder Jacob Markstrom.
Thomas won 11 of 21 face-offs, which is a good night at 52 percent, and he had a key block immediately before Oskar Sundqvist's empty-netter that iced the win to help the Blues improve to 3-2-1 heading into Vancouver to face the Canucks on Friday.
