It will all come down to one game for St. Louis Blues prospect Juraj Pekarcik and the Moncton Wildcats.

And an elimination game will come down against a familiar foe.

The Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League champions were put on the brink of elimination on Monday with a 3-1 loss against the Medicine Hat Tigers, champions of the Western Hockey League, at the 2025 Memorial Cup in Rimouski, Quebec.

It's the second straight loss for Moncton (0-1-0-1), which fell 3-2 in overtime on Saturday against the London Knights, Ontario Hockey League champions.

It means Medicine Hat and London are guaranteed to at least be in the semifinal on Friday. Those teams will play for the right to finish first in the four-team tournament, with the winner automatically advancing into Sunday's 6 p.m. (CT) championship game, and the winner to play in the semifinal on Friday, also at 6 p.m.

It means that Wednesday's game between QMJHL foes Moncton and Rimouski Oceanic, who faced one another in a six-game championship series for the QMJHL title that was won by Moncton, will play each other Wednesday at 6 p.m. to advance to the semifinal, with the winner to face the loser of Tuesday's Medicine Hat-London game. The loser of the Moncton-Rimouski game Wednesday will see its season come to an end.

Pekarcik, a third-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, has not recorded a point in each game at the Memorial Cup thus far but had seven points (three goals, four assists) in the recent six-game series against Rimouski and will be needed on Wednesday if the Wildcats are to keep their season going. He has 21 points (nine goals, 12 assists) in 21 playoff games, including two at this tournament.
