The Lightning need points and tonight they'll get a chance to grab a couple in the Atlantic Division. The last time these two teams met on November 20th, the Bolts came out of it with a 5-4 overtime win at Amalie Arena. It was a nail biter with a playoff-type atmosphere.
Steven Stamkos scored the game-tying goal with 4.8 seconds left in regulation. Brandon Hagel got the game-winner on a breakaway 1:19 into overtime. These two teams play each other hard and while the Lightning have struggled in some areas this season, they tend to play up to their competition in big games.
Tampa Bay has been hit with injuries as of late and will be without defensemen Erik Cernak, Haydn Fleury and Mikhail Sergachev tonight. So far they’ve been able to recall players from Syracuse and it’s been working out pretty well. Yesterday, Sean Day and Declan Carlile were sent back and Jack Thompson and Emil Lilleberg were recalled.
As for the Bruins, they’re looking to strengthen their defensive game tonight against the Lightning. Despite scoring five goals on Thursday in a 6-5 loss to the Penguins, the Bruins spent most of their time in the defensive zone. If the Lightning can get their 5 on 5 play going, this could be where they get ahead. They have the ability to leave Boston with a win.
Puck drop is at 7pm.
