Former Tampa Bay Lightning forward has been linked to the Edmonton Oilers.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have their fair share of recent players who have moved on to other organizations. Alex Killorn was the latest Lightning player forced to sign (or be traded) elsewhere due to salary cap management.
One former Lightning player who has been making headlines over the past few months - and for all the wrong reasons - is Corey Perry. Perry had an "alcohol-fueled incident" that led to a subsequent healthy scratch and eventual termination of contract.
Recently it was revealed that Gary Bettman has granted Perry permission to play in the NHL again if a team will take on the controversial player. It also appears that there is a frontrunner for the power forward's services.
The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly in on Perry. Yesterday on the Oilers Now radio show with Bob Stauffer, he and Frank Seravalli discussed the matter. Stauffer reported that the Oilers are doing their "due diligence" on the player. Seravalli said that the Oilers are very high on Perry's list and the team has expressed "real interest".
Seravalli also disclosed that a "handful of teams" are in on Perry - and have been for a number of weeks.
The Lightning are in more dire straights cap-wise than the Oilers are, so there probably isn't a fit there with the Lightning. Although looking at how the Lightning season has been so far, the team may look to add a spark.
But if the Oilers are as interested as both Stauffer and Seravalli say they are, they just might be the team to beat to acquire Perry.
