With Jakob Chychrun trade talk picking up, the Lightning should make a push for him.
Tampa Bay Lightning GM Julien BriseBois made it clear that the club will be looking to improve their roster at the deadline. One specific area that they should look to strengthen is their defensive group. Due to this, Ottawa Senators defenseman Jakob Chychrun should be on their radar over these next few weeks.
The Senators are open to hearing offers for Chychrun while in the middle of another poor season. When noting that he can play the right side, the Lightning need to at least explore the prospect of targeting him.
Chychrun would be a massive addition to their group. He could fit on the club's top pairing with Victor Hedman or could drop to their second pairing to spread out the talent. In either scenario, the Bolts would be adding a legitimate star to their defense if they brought in Chychrun.
Chychrun's $4.6 million cap hit is not too outrageous, either. Yes, the Lightning would need to send money the other way, along with other assets, but they should at least contact Ottawa about him.
Chychrun is having another strong season in 2023-24. In 39 games, he has seven goals to go along with 26 points. Adding that kind of production to the blue line would be excellent for the Bolts, so we will need to wait and see if they join the sweepstakes from here.
