Mikhail Sergachev will start the rehabilitation process after fracturing his tibia and fibula.
The Tampa Bay Lightning announced on Thursday afternoon that defenseman Mikhail Sergachev underwent a successful surgery in New York to stabilize fractures to both the tibia and fibula in his left leg.
Sergachev was injured during the second period of Wednesday’s game vs the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. His night ended just 27 minutes into the game, when his left leg tangled underneath him. The Lightning defenseman was approaching Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere in the corner. Lafreniere leaned in as he made contact, causing Sergachev’s leg to get twisted under his own body.
Lightning athletic trainers, Tom Mulligan and Mike Poirier quickly hopped from across bench as Sergachev grabbed his left leg. His teammates immediately surrounded him.
Sergachev is expected to return to Tampa in the coming days to immediately start the rehabilitation process. A timetable for his return has not yet been set.
