The Lightning and Maple Leafs are playing their second matchup this season. Toronto defeated the Bolts 4-3 in overtime on October 21st after the Lightning dominated most of the first and second period. The loss did not sit well with the players and they’ll be looking to make up for it tonight.
From the Tampa side: It appears Tyler Motte will be making a return to the lineup. The team announced on Sunday that first-year forward Waltteri Merela was being assigned to the Syracuse Crunch. The 25-year-old appeared in 10 of the Lightning’s 11 games but had yet to record a point.
The Lightning are coming off a 6-4 win in Ottawa with Nikita Kucherov banking a five-point night and Brayden Point grabbing a hat trick and four points himself.
On the Toronto side: The Maple Leafs will head into this matchup after losing four straight games. Matthew Knies will get a look with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner tonight.
Knies has two goals and one assist. All three came the last time the Maple Leafs and Lightning met back in October.
As always with these two teams, it's expected to be a lively night. Puck drop is at 7pm EST.
