The word ‘Milk’ will be displayed on the right side of the jersey as part of a “multi-year” deal with the Dairy Farmers of Ontario.

Get ready to see the word ‘Milk’ displayed on the Toronto Maple Leafs jerseys this season.

The club announced on Tuesday that they have partnered with the Dairy Farmers of Ontario and the ‘Milk’ logo will appear on all of the team’s games sweaters this season and onward as part of a “multi-year partnership”.

The NHL-approved jersey ads beginning this season to help drive revenue and reaction have been quite mixed.

The Dairy Farmers of Ontario have had a long-standing relationship with the Maple Leafs so this partnership makes sense.

One memorable ad from the early 90s saw Doug Gilmour in a milk commercial where he is seen in the vision of cow legs.

“Holy Cow” as his teammate says.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed. Canadian media sales expert Adam Seaborn says the total value of the deal is in eight figures.'

Fans of the Maple Leafs will see the new patch in their first pre-season on Saturday when they host the Ottawa Senators in a split-squad doubleheader at Scotiabank Arena.

    The puns flow in

The decision to have the word ‘milk’ as one of the logos was sure to draw a reaction.

Former LeafsTV host and broadcaster Paul Hendricks went with the French translation for one of his best-used puns.

The Athletic’s Hailey Salvian made a reference to bagged milk, which is exclusive to Ontario.

Some took it as an opportunity to point out the team’s shortcomings.

Bleacher Report’s Open Ice blog put the Leafs on a carton of milk, a common practice to help find missing people.
