Manhattan, N.Y. — Simon Benoit has been on quite a productive streak with the Toronto Maple Leafs lately.
The stay-at-home physical defenseman isn't known for his points production. Still, he has a goal and three assists in his last five games, firmly asserting himself as an everyday defenseman if the playoffs were to start tomorrow.
Ahead of Toronto's 2-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche at Scotiabank Arena, the Sportsnet broadcast caught Benoit entering the arena with what appeared to be an aluminum briefcase.
Benoit was asked what he keeps inside of it.
"Oh, I've got that question asked before, it's a coffee machine," Benoit explained. "I'm a big coffee fan, and it's hard sometimes to bring your own coffee machine, so that one has no electricity. It's just a good old, you said, lever machine, so make a good old flat white."
It's clearly working for him. His latest assist saw him bounce a puck off an official before it fell to teammate Steven Lorentz for the game-winning goal on Wednesday.
"It's tough look on the ref there, but we'll take it," Benoit said before the Leafs visit the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. "Sometimes those bounces happen and it was a good bounce for us, so we'll take it."
