Toronto Marlies forward Ryan Tverberg had a January he won't soon forget. Now the Richmond Hill, Ontario native has been recognized for it by earning AHL Player of the Month honors. The 22-year-old scored five goals and had 10 assists through 11 games in January. The AHL rookie had three multi-point games in January, including a big night on Jan. 12 when he scored four goals in a single period and added an assist for a five-point night in a game against the Belleville Senators. Selected by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the seventh round (213th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft, Tverberg has seven goals and 18 assists in 24 games this season and leads the team with 1.04 points per game. Tverberg missed over six weeks of action earlier this season with a leg injury. The Maple Leafs signed Tverberg to a three-year, entry-level contract on Mar. 15 following the end of the NCAA collegiate career with the University of Connecticut. He had 15 goals and 30 points in 35 games in his final year of college and was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award.
