With William Nylander locked up for the long term, THN's David Alter breaks down what it means for the Toronto Maple Leafs moving forward. EDMONTON — Joseph Woll has joined the Toronto Maple Leafs for the club's four-game road trip across Western Canada and Seattle. The goaltender took the ice to do some solo work following the team's morning skate at Rogers Place on Tuesday. Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe indicated that the club had been mulling over whether it made sense to bring Woll or not based on the lack of practices and ice availability during a stretch in which the Maple Leafs will play four games in six days. Getting into game action on the trip, however, was not in the cards. "It just means he's one step further," Keefe said of Woll's presence with the group. "I don't even expect to see him in any practices on this trip," Keefe explained. "He's just here to work with Curtis [Maple Leafs goaltending coach Curtis Sanford] and be around the guys. Woll has been out of the lineup since Dec. 7 when he sustained a high-ankle injury in a game against the Ottawa Senators. He finally returned to the ice on Jan. 8 for the first time since the injury but has been doing light work. He has an 8-5-1 record this season with a .916 save percentage. The interest in the goaltender's return has been high since Ilya Samsonov has struggled this season. Martin Jones, the club's third goaltending option, has performed well in Woll's absence. Signed to a one-year, $875,000 contract on Aug 9, the 33-year-old Jones has an 8-4-1 record with a .924 save percentage.
