The long flowing hair of Tyler Bertuzzi is gone after the Toronto Maple Leafs forward cut it off in the name of charity. When Tyler Bertuzzi addressed the media following practice at Ford Performance Centre on Sunday, Toronto Maple Leafs forward Ryan Reaves could be heard from his locker stall. "Ask about the hair!" he shouted. Bertuzzi returned from the NHL bye week with a whole new look. Gone was the long flowing hair that had been a signature look for the left-winger and in was a clean-looking Bertuzzi. Although he hasn't had the puck luck in his first season with Toronto, the decision to cut the hair had nothing to do with changing things up on the ice. He went to Michigan where his second child was born over a week ago. "I donated my hair last year and the lady who does it for me is in Michigan too. So it was kind of the perfect timing again to donate to kids with cancer," Bertuzzi explained. The lady is Alyssa Bellestri, a Detroit-area hairstylist who works with 'Wigs for Kids [https://www.wigsforkids.org/]', a charitable organization that donates hair to kids fighting cancer. "It’s tough for the kids and the family and little things like that. Instead of just cutting it off and putting it in the garbage you may as well donate to them." Bertuzzi first got involved with the organization while with the Detroit Red Wings in 2022, but this was the first time Bertuzzi cut his hair midseason. "Some guys gave me some pretty good looks this morning," Bertuzzi said of his teammates' reaction. Signed by the Maple Leafs to a one-year, $5.5 million contract, the 28-year-old forward has six goals and 14 assists in 46 games this season. "I'm looking forward to finishing the second half strong," he said.
