The Toronto Maple Leafs can't seem to catch a break and the oft-injured Joseph Woll is hurt again. Fraser Minten is back on the ice. The Toronto Maple Leafs were back on the ice for an optional practice at Ford Performance Centre on Thursday and Minten was among them taking part. "He's getting a lot better. He's pretty close," Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube said on Thursday about a timeline for Minten's return to full health. "That's as good as I can give you." The 20-year-old Minten sustained a high-ankle sprain during one of Toronto's games against the Montreal Canadiens as part of their rookie showdown, a pair of rookie games that were held at Bell Centre last month before training camp. The injury forced Minten to miss all of the Leafs' training camp. The player is currently on Toronto's season-opening injured reserve, a mechanism where the Leafs were able to use a prorated amount of his salary for cap relief, in relation to how many days he was on an NHL roster last season. Minten, Toronto's second-round pick (38th overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft, won a spot out of training camp last year and played in four games with the Leafs before he was returned to Junior for the remainder of the season. He captained Team Canada at the 2024 World Junior Championship. It's expected that Minten will start his season with the Toronto Marlies once the player returns to full health.
