John Tavares watches on as the Maple Leafs work on the power play. The captain will miss the game on Tuesday against the Devils for precautionary reasons. NEWARK, N.J. — Ryan O’Reilly underwent successful surgery on his broken finger and head coach Sheldon Keefe confirmed that the recovery timeline for the Toronto Maple Leafs is four weeks. O’Reilly was placed on long-term injured reserve on Monday after he took a puck to his finger after some friendly fire from teammate Auston Matthews. The Maple Leafs' acquisition of O'Reilly was their 'big name' get in a series of five trades that saw many new players join the club ahead of their playoff run. They picked up the 2019 Stanley Cup champion and Conn Smythe Trophy winner from the St. Louis Blues along with center Noel Acciari in exchange for four draft picks including a first-rounder, prospect Mikhail Abramaov and forward Adam Gaudette. Given the four-week timeline, O'Reilly could return as soon as Apr. 4 when the Leafs are set to host against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Of course, he could come back earlier if he heals faster than expected. The best news for the team is that he is expected back well before the regular season ends. "We've acquired him to be healthy (and) ready to go for the playoffs and that will be the case," Keefe said following the team's practice on Monday. The 32-year-old O'Reilly has three goals and two assists in eight games since becoming a member of the Maple Leafs on Feb. 18.
