The Toronto Maple Leafs are down another defenseman, Shortly after the club lost the services of Mark Giordano for a majority of their 2-1 shootout victory against the Florida Panthers, head coach Sheldon Keefe said that the veteran will "miss some time". The exact nature of Giordano's injury isn't obvious. On his last shift in the first period, he had a shot on goal and was on the ice for Florida's first goal of the game, a Kevin Stenlund tally at 15:29. Giordano also recorded his only shot on goal in the game on the same shift. The Maple Leafs are already without defenseman John Klingberg, who was placed on long-term injured reserve with a hip injury. The 40-year-old Giordano has averaged 18:28 ice time through the 19 games this season. He logged just 6:31 before heading to the locker room on Tuesday. He started the season on the team's third defenseman pair with Timothy Liljegren, who has been on long-term injured reserve with a high ankle sprain since Nov. 2. "We're getting thin," Keefe acknowledged of his defense. "We've had some guys who played big minutes today so we're thinking we might be shorthanded at practice tomorrow." Morgan Rielly logged a season-high 30:30 of ice time, the most he's logged in a regular season game since Oct. 29, 2019 where he logged 33:16 in a 4-3 loss to the Washington Capitals.
