According to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Uyte LLC—the same company that filed previous trademarks for the Utah Hockey Club—has now filed a trademark for the nickname "Mammoth."
It was reported yesterday that the Utah organization had likely decided on their name for next season. Today, KSL Sports reported that "Mammoth" was officially filed as a trademark.
Earlier this year, Uyte LLC filed trademarks for numerous names, including: Utah Ice, Utah Mountaineers, Utah Glaciers, Utah Freeze, Utah Hive, Utah Outlaws, Utah Swarm, Utah Squall, Utah Fury, Utah Blast, Utah Frost, Utah Canyons, Utah Powder, Utah Venom, Utah Yetis, Utah Caribou, Utah Black Diamonds, Utah Blizzard, Utah Mammoth, Utah HC, and, of course, the Utah Hockey Club.
Utah Hockey Club owners Ryan and Ashley Smith allowed fans to vote on the team's new name in a final fan vote that ran from January 29 to February 4.
As of February 4, the patent extension for both "Mammoth" and "Utah Hockey Club" was granted, hinting at what the team’s next name could be.
In the KSL Sports report, they reached out to the Utah Hockey Club for comment on the patent extensions. While the team declined to provide details, President of Hockey Operations Chris Armstrong did offer this statement:
“We continue to work through our naming process and remain on track to announce the team name ahead of the 2025-26 season,” Armstrong said. “Every day we get closer but not there yet.”
