The Utah Hockey Club signed their first player since officially becoming an NHL franchise when they announced the signing of Noel Nordh to a three-year, entry-level contract on Monday.
The Arizona Coyotes drafted the Swedish native in the third round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
He played for Brynas IF in HockeyAllsvenskan in Sweden last season, where he had 15 points in 50 games.
Earlier this off-season, Utah also announced the signing of prospect Julian Lutz to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The Coyotes drafted the German native in the second round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Lutz played for the Green Bay Gamblers last season, and in 50 games, he scored 24 goals and 44 assists for 68 points, which was a career-high.
Since Utah wasn't officially an NHL organization at that time, Lutz didn't fall under their "first prospect signed in franchise history." Nevertheless, Utah has a very good prospect pool, and fans should expect more signings over the off-season.
Utah has the sixth overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft, and there are recent reports that they may be willing to move it. However, it seems likely that they would draft another franchise-altering piece to help grow their program.
