An auction for state trust land the Coyotes applied for in north Phoenix will reportedly be posted on March 14.

According to PHNX Sports’ Craig Morgan, an auction for state trust land the Arizona Coyotes applied for in north Phoenix will reportedly be posted on March 14.

“I have heard the land auction is definitely going to be posted on March 14,” Morgan said. “You’ve got the timeline where it has to be publicly posted. I know the Arizona Republic reported that it’s 10 weeks, I’ve actually been told it’s up to the discretion of the Arizona Land Department.”

“It could be less, it could be more. I’m told it might be even more actually. What the thinking is right now is that we are going to have an auction in June…”

This report indicates that the Coyotes’ arena situation won’t be resolved for at least another few months with an auction taking place possibly in June.

However, this is also a positive sign that Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo is on the right track in securing a piece of land even if it does take a few months to finalize.

The NHL has not made any sort of statement regarding this recent development, but based on their past trends, it seems the league will be patient with the Coyotes as they have been throughout this entire process.

It was originally reported that an announcement regarding the Coyotes’ arena situation was imminent and could come as early as Super Bowl weekend. The auction news might have changed that though which has to be considered a good sign.

With a specific date being pointed out, the ball finally seems to be in motion for the Coyotes’ case to stay in the Valley.
