With Saturday's 5-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers, the Vancouver Canucks are in the win column for the first time in this National Hockey League preseason. The victory bumps the team's exhibition record to 1-2-1.

The Canucks have scored seven goals and allowed 17 -- with 10 of those coming in last Sunday's 10-0 shutout loss in Caglary.

After netting a pair last night, Quinn Hughes leads the Canucks in preseason goal scoring with three. Fresh off his four assist effort against the Oilers, Brock Boeser is the club's assist leader. Hughes and Boeser are tied for the team lead with four preseason points so far.

Hughes leads the Canucks and sits in a tie for eighth league-wide with 11 preseason shots on goal.

Rookie Cole McWard leads the Canucks with 10 penalty minutes. He has taken at least one penalty in each of his three preseason appearances and was whistled for three infractions on Saturday against Edmonton.

As a team, the Canucks are 3 for 18 (16.7%) on the power play with two of those goals coming last night.

They are also 14 of 17 (82.4%) on the penalty kill. Two of the three goals surrendered while short-handed came last Sunday in Calgary. Since then, the Canucks have killed off 10 of 11 penalties (90.9%) with most of their regular NHL penalty killers in uniform.

Per Natural Stat Trick, JT Miller has the best pre-season Corsi at 61.1% followed by Filip Hronek at 60.3% along with Brock Boeser and Phil Di Giuseppe at 58.9%. As a team, the Canucks have controlled 46.2% of shot attempts in the preseason and 41.7% of the expected goals so far.

The Canucks still have 42 players in camp not including the injured Ilya Mikheyev and Tucker Poolman (5 goalies, 14 defensemen and 23 forwards). Nine players have appeared in three preseason games: Conor Garland, Dakota Joshua, Pius Suter, Nils Höglander, Nils Aman, Jack Studnicka, Sheldon Dries, Max Sasson and Cole McWard. On the other hand, four roster players have seen no exhibition action so far: Filip Johansson, Tristen Nielsen, Josh Bloom and Nikita Tolopilo.

The Canucks next game is Wednesday in Abbotsford against the Seattle Kraken.
