Welcome to this edition of "The Stats Behind The Game." This recurring deep dive breaks down the analytics behind each Vancouver Canucks game as recorded by Natural Stat Trick. In this article, we look back on the Canucks most recent 2-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues.

When diving into the analytics, this looks like a game Vancouver should have won. While they were outshot at even strength 30-25, they did lead in scoring chances 28-25 and held a 9-0 advantage in the third when it came to high-danger scoring chances created. Despite the analytical edge, the most important statistic is that they only scored one goal in their tight-checking game against the Blues.

One area of the analytics that sticks out from this game was that while the Canucks created 13 high-danger chances at even strength, only seven resulted in shots on goal. As for the Blues, nine of their ten high-danger scoring chances resulted in a shot. While it is great that Vancouver can generate these Grade A opportunities, they need to find a way to get them on the net. With the Canucks set to face strong defensive teams like the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins on this road trip, they will need to find a way to generate shots on the net; otherwise, they could be leaving points on the table at the end of this road trip.

Lastly, one player who had a solid game was defenceman Filip Hronek. In 21:51 of ice time at even strength, he finished the night with one takeaway, one block, one hit and two shots on goal. As for his on-ice percentages, he finished the night with an 82.70 xGF%, while the Canucks held a 7-2 high-danger chance advantage while he was on the ice. While he was out for one of the goals against, his overall game was impressive as he continues to show how valuable he is to Vancouver's lineup.
