Quinn Hughes will miss his second straight game with an injury.
The Vancouver Canucks will be without their captain for a second straight game as Quinn Hughes will not play against the San Jose Sharks. According to Head Coach Rick Tocchet, Hughes will not travel to San Jose with the team on Wednesday and will miss Thursday's Pacific Division showdown. Hughes is still an option for Saturday's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, with more information available closer to game time.

"He wants to play, but he can't play," said Tocchet. "Put it this way, I can be the bad guy; I don't care. He's not going to play. Yeah, would he try to gut it out, but he's a smart kid. He knows gutting it out is not going to help our team. Last game of the year, I don't even know if he would play. Probably, but right now, the kids got a big will to play, but he knows better than that."
Tocchet also discussed Hughes' availability for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off. Hughes is projected to play a significant role for Team USA in the tournament, which begins next week. While Tocchet didn't rule Hughes out of the event, he did indicate that missing the tournament was not out of the question.
"Could be. Depends on how close he is to playing on Saturday. That's really what it comes down to. We're gonna have to have a hard, long, look at this... It's tough. (Alex) Pietrangelo, he's made that decision. I don't know. It's a tough one because I know Quinn is a USA guy, loves his country, play with his brothers. A lot of positives to it, but like I said, he's a smart kid. He understands what's what's at stake."
Vancouver hits the road for one game when they visit the Sharks on Thursday. This will be the third meeting between these two Pacific Division rivals, with the Canucks already holding a 2-0 season-series lead. Game time is set for 7:30 pm PT from the SAP Center.
