All three of Vancouver's prospects saw action on Sunday.
For the first time since the 2025 World Junior Championship started, all three of the Vancouver Canucks’ prospects partaking in the tournament played on the same day. Initially, Team Canada’s Sawyer Mynio was not registered to his team’s roster, but after an injury to Matthew Schaefer in a 3–2 shootout loss against Latvia, Canada registered the Canucks prospect and dressed him on Sunday night. Here’s how Sunday fared for Vancouver’s World Juniors participants.

Basile Sansonnens - Team Switzerland
On December 29, Basile Sansonnens and Team Switzerland took on Tom Willander and Team Sweden, suffering a 7–5 defeat at the hands of his fellow Canucks prospect. Vancouver’s seventh-round pick of the 2024, Sansonnens has yet to register a point in the tournament. As a third-pairing defenceman, he has been playing with relatively sheltered minutes, as he played the second-least amount for defencemen in Switzerland’s game against Sweden.

Tom Willander - Team Sweden
Willander had an impressive showing against Switzerland. He found the back of the net twice, and added an assist on a goal by a Victor Englund goal that would eventually win the game for Sweden. Contrary to his previous matches, he played the third-most minutes of Sweden’s blueline with a final total of 18:01. In his games against Slovakia and Kazakhstan, he played 24:43 and 20:56 respectively. With the three points he registered on Sunday, Willander is now at five points in three games played — tying him for seventh in points by a skater and fourth in points by a defenceman in the entire tournament.
