While the Canucks aren't looking to deal star defenseman Quinn Hughes right now, GM Jim Rutherford's most recent thoughts on his future beyond next year aren't exactly what fans want to hear.
While speaking with The Province's Patrick Johnson, Rutherford shed some light on what the organization could be looking to do with him once he hits free agency next year.
“I believe Quinn and his agent are aware of the direction we want to go. And they’re aware of the direction they want to go. Everybody wants to play on a winning team. But there’s different reasons why people make decisions."
It certainly seems as if there have been negotiations with Hughes and his camp, and from Rutherford said, it appears the organization isn't confident they'll be able to retain him long term, especially if they have their eyes set on a rebuild.
