As the Vancouver Canucks struggles continue, the trade rumours surrounding star defenseman Quinn Hughes are starting to heat up. To no surprise, the New Jersey Devils have inquired about Hughes as they not only look to boost their roster but could also be looking to pair him with his brothers, Luke and Jack.
But, if the Canucks decide to move Hughes, they're reportedly looking to acquire a top-six forward, which the Devils may not have to give.
According to reporter Rick Dhaliwal, the Canucks are "gauging the market" and would love to land Devils forward Nico Hischer, who like Hughes, is under contract for one more season.
It would make it difficult for New Jersey to pay both in the same season, especially considering both are expected to make between $13-$14 million a year on their next contract.
So, Vancouver has some leverage in a potential trade with the Devils.
New Jersey also lacks center depth behind Hughes and Hischer, so there's no doubt it would be a big risk dealing one of them away.
Do you think Vancouver could acquire Hischer if they decide to move Hughes?
