The Canucks captain recorded the fourth most points in the NHL during the month of November.
After scoring five goals and recording 22 points in 15 games, the NHL named Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes as the third star of the month for November. This is the second month in a row a Canucks has been included in the Star's of the Month, as Elias Pettersson was named second star at the end of October. From an 11-game point streak to setting a new franchise record for points in a calendar month, The Canucks captain not only established himself as an early Norris Trophy favourite but also a player that should receive some Hart Trophy votes at the end of the season.
In short, Hughes was spectacular through November. Averaging 25:12 of ice time, he finished tied for the team lead in even-strength goals with five, while his 40 shots on goal were just one behind Brock Boeser for the team lead. He also finished second on the team in power play points with 11 and was the only Canuck to score an overtime goal which came against the New York Islanders. Achieving feats that Bobby Orr last did, it is safe to say he has embraced the captaincy and is willing to do whatever it takes to win.
With a heavy home schedule, do not be surprised if Hughes can replicate his success in December. He should have no problem passing Doug Lidster on the Canucks all-time assist list by a defenceman and is just four multi-point performances off tying Alex Edler for the most in franchise history by a defenceman despite playing over 600 fewer games. One of the league's most dynamic players, he continues to separate himself from the crowd and, arguably, is already the best defenceman in Vancouver's history.
