Phil Di Giuseppe rises up with strong showing in Canucks preseason finale
Phil Di Giuseppe is The Hockey News Canucks player of the week. The veteran winger had a goal and an assist in Friday's 3-1 win over Calgary in the Canucks preseason finale. He used his size and speed to impress all training camp and throughout the exhibition season. Di Giuseppe finished the preseason with a share of the team lead with five points. He was the only Canuck forward to score more than one goal in the preseason.
Monday is Di Giuseppe's 30th birthday so the THN Player of the Week honour is more reason to celebrate. While other hopefuls faded as the preseason rolled along, the Toronto native was able to elevate his game.
Di Giuseppe looks like he will start the season on a line with JT Miller and Brock Boeser as well as contributing on the Canucks penalty kill. He appeared in 30 games for the Canucks last season scoring six times and adding six assists.
Di Giuseppe played a career-high 49 games for Carolina in 2017-18. His career highs for goals (7) and points (17) came as a rookie with the Hurricanes in the 2015-16 season.
