Veteran bench boss leaves game as all-time wins leader in Vancouver Canucks history

Alain Vigneault has announced his retirement after 19 seasons as a National Hockey League head coach.

The 62-year-old leaves the game holding the Vancouver Canucks franchise record for career coaching victories with 313. In all, Vigneault coached 1363 NHL games behind the bench for the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers and most recently the Philadelphia Flyers. He has a career record of 722-489-35-117 good for a career winning percentage of .585.

In his seven seasons in Vancouver from 2006-2013, Vigneault was 313-170-57 (.632).

He won the Jack Adams Trophy as NHL coach of the year in 2006-07.

Vigneault twice guided teams to the Stanley Cup Final first with the Canucks in 2011 and then with the Rangers in 2014.

Three times during his coaching career, Vigneault led teams to 50 or more victories in a season.

He was relieved of his coaching duties in Philadelphia in December 2021 and has not coached since.
