A day after making their first NCAA free-agent signing in Austin Brimmer, the Abbotsford Canucks have signed Bennett Schimek to a one-year deal in 2026-27 as well as a PTO for the remainder of the 2025-26 season. As a result, Schimek will play with Abbotsford through the rest of this season. Schimek, 22, was the captain of Arizona State University's team this season, scoring 13 goals and 30 assists in 35 games played. This was his fourth season spent in the NCAA and his second at ASU. Prior to this season, in his first year with ASU in 2024-25, Schimek collected 15 goals and 22 assists in 35 games. He also spent two seasons at Providence College, registering an overall total of 19 goals and 18 assists in 71 games. Abbotsford resumes their current home stand with their second of two matchups against the Manitoba Moose tonight at 7:00 pm PT. The AHL Canucks are coming off a 4-0 loss sustained the night before.
