This week, we’ll be looking at what the Canucks got up to from January 20 to 26, 2025. On Tuesday, the Canucks took on the Buffalo Sabres [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/buffalo-sabres/], a team that they’d last beaten 4–3 at the end of November. As they welcomed the Sabres to Rogers Arena, however, Vancouver was treated to a 3–2 defeat. They got off to a slow start early on in the game, and ultimately surrendered the opening goal. His absence came as a result of his cross-check on Conor Garland during last Saturday’s 3–2 victory. The score was a little more lopsided this time around, in Edmonton’s favour as well, as Corey Perry did his best to rattle Vancouver. One of the main takeaways from the Canucks’ 6–2 defeat from that night was that Garland has become public enemy no. 1 in Edmonton. Saturday looked to be shaping up the same way the other two games had, as the Canucks were slow out of the gate and faced pressure from a swarming Washington Capitals [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/washington-capitals/] team currently at the top of the NHL. However, Kevin Lankinen played a phenomenal first game back, making 32 saves on 33 shots faced. Elias Pettersson (D) made his NHL debut and looked as advertised. Quinn Hughes elevated his team to the 2–1 victory, scoring both of the team’s goals in typical Hughes-like fashion.
