Their biggest off-season addition wasn’t a free agent signing, but rather a trade they made that shook up the 2025 NHL Draft selections. Sending picks 16 and 17 overall as well as Emil Heineman to the Islanders, the Canadiens acquired one of the NHL’s promising young defenders — Noah Dobson. They also acquired center Zack Bolduc in exchange for Logan Mailloux and parted ways with Christian Dvorak. While they did ultimately qualify for the playoffs in 2024–25, they did so in a division that was primarily top-heavy. The Atlantic Division is expected to be highly competitive next season as well, making playoffs a harder target for fringe teams such as the Canadiens. Adding Dobson will strengthen the blueline, but will this be enough for them to beat out their opponents in both the Atlantic and Metropolitan Divisions? Vancouver didn’t fare well against Montréal in 2024–25, though the Canucks made both games pretty close. They dropped both matches against Montréal in January and March, allowing a total of nine goals in both games. Their first matchup with the Canadiens takes place at home on October 25, with this being the first of a back-to-back for Vancouver as they’ll face the Edmonton Oilers [https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/edmonton-oilers/] the day after. Their next game against Montréal isn’t until January 12 at the Bell Centre. 2025–26 GAMES AGAINST VANCOUVER Game 1: October 25, 4:00pm PT @ Rogers Arena Game 2: January 12, 4:30pm PT @ Bell Centre Mar 11, 2025; Vancouver, British Columbia, CAN; Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson (48) drives past Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers (57) in the third period at Rogers Arena.
