    The Capitals paid tribute to Black History on Monday.

    The Washington Capitals debuted new jerseys while also hosting a Rising Stars Academy clinic and paying tribute to stars of the past in honor of Black History Month.

    Washington revealed its Black History Month jerseys on Monday. The jerseys are primarily black, silver and white, with the captain and alternate patches accented with Pan-African colors of red, yellow and green.

    The numbers on the jersey, as well as the shoulder patch with the team's inaugural year of '74, feature the names of the organization's 11 Black players.

    J. Freeman Robinson designed the jersey and also paid homage to Black history with the fonts on the jersey, using VTC Ruby named after Ruby Bridges and Neue Black in honor of Martin Luther King and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference's Chicago Freedom Movement.

    Washington also had a display of painted skates and sneakers that pay homage to the team's history, featuring Smith-Pelly, the Retro logo and more.

    All of these items will be auctioned off by the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation to benefit the Capital Impact Fund. The Capital Impact Fund provides grants to organizations taht can assist in eliminating cost barriers faced by individuals of color in the hockey community, and it strives to promote euqlaity.

    In addition to this, Beck Malenstyn, Max Pacioretty, Joel Edmundson and Ethan Bear skated with kids at the Rising Stars Academy, led by Duante Abercrombie and Bryan King. The program is a co-ed program established to provide elite skill development and mentorship for local hockey players of color.

    They also held a panel and discussion featuring Monumental Sports Network's Tarik El-Bashir.
