    ARLINGTON, V.A. — With four days of training camp over with and the team's preseason officially underway, the Washington Capitals made their first round of cuts.

    The Capitals loaned Ryan Hofer and Garin Bjorklund to Hershey, while also reassigning Grant Cruikshank, Brad Hunt, Justin Nachbauer, Garrett Roe, Hundson Thornton, Brennan Saulnier, Matt Strome, Aaron Ness, Dmitry Osipov, Tyler Weiss and Jayden Lee to the Bears.

    Cam Allen, Patrick Thomas, Eriks Mateiko and Leon Muggli have been returned to their junior and European clubs for the 2024-25 season, and Ayo Adeniye, Oasiz Wiesblatt and Seth Eisele have been released from their tryouts.

    With that first round of cuts, Washington's roster is officially down to 51 players.

    The Capitals will get back to work on Tuesday as their game group and non-game group will take the ice ahead of a set of back-to-back preseason games this week.

    Washington will head north to take on the Boston Bruins on Tuesday before paying a visit to the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday. Pierre-Luc Dubois and Matt Roy are set to make their Capitals debuts on Tuesday in Boston.
